Arabic and Farsi at Playford College

Playford College offers Arabic language as LOTE (Languages Other Than English) to all year levels from Year 1 to Year 10. The content takes a holistic approach to develop reading, comprehension, writing, listening and speaking skills.

The Arabic Language is taught twice a week to accelerate the fluency of Quran reading for all students. Arabic lessons are interactive, giving students the opportunity to learn with, and from, others. Arabic is part of the Australian Curriculum.

We teach Modern Standard Arabic introducing the Arabic alphabet, alongside grammar and essential communicative language. We also offer cultural awareness of Arabic and Islamic countries. Our aim is to get children to love the Arabic Language.

Playford College has introduced Farsi in Secondary as an alternative to Arabic in Years 7-10. Students build their vocabulary and understanding of the Farsi language through booklets, oral presentations and interactive class activities. Students also go on excursions visiting local Afghan community markets and grocers to further build their Farsi lexicon.
